Why are fans spending US$1,000 or more on eBay for the 14-volume
black script book series? Because they have no choice.
Yes. We are talking about
the limited-edition script book series that was released from October 2005
to March 2008 before we stopped production on it over 2 years ago.
After seeing
yet another one of these $1,000 sales on eBay we decided to offer our back-up/reserve
sets of the 14-volume series. We don't have that many but we have enough
to fend off the eBay sellers charging a 200% mark-up for used and worn copies.

We are also seeing just the
Volume 15 routinely selling for between $250-$300.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because the 14-volume black script book series
was a limited edition, we want to be clear that we are not republishing
the books. What we are doing is offering the sets we kept in-house and have
dipped into for years to handle customer service replacements for defective
volumes discovered after the series was pulled from the market. That's why
we have only so many.
For this reason,
we know that if we put these sets on sale through B5books.com
-- the way we normally offer books -- they would be gone in seconds.
Because we only
have limited quantities and are offering them at their original price,
the only option that is fair to all fans is to offer the few sets we have
via lottery, the how-tos of which will be detailed in a moment.
First, some
important notes:
1) By "script books series," we mean Volumes 1-14 as well as the coveted
Volume 15, signed by J. Michael Straczynski.
2) So that
we can guarantee all books shipped, we are only picking a few winners
at a time, so we can handle any issues that might occur during shipping
by dipping back into our reserves to replace a damaged volume. This way,
we can assure fans there is no risk of getting a damaged book without
us being able to replace it.
3) Each lottery winner
will have their set of books specially packed to avoid damage. All the books
will be packed in the white bumper boxes used for our current book releases.
These bumper boxes will then be surrounded in bubble wrap before being placed
in a larger cardboard box. Each set of books will arrive in two boxes: one
will contain 7 books; the other will contain 8 books. When we've shipped
this way in the past, we've had a zero-damage rate. All shipments will be
tracked.
4) These books are pristine
and still in their original shrink-wrap. They were printed years ago specifically
to replace defective volumes, so we had to make sure they were perfect before
the "plates were destroyed."
5) The books are US$39.99
each -- the price for which they originally sold. Volume 15 remains a gift
from J. Michael Straczynski; there is no cost for Volume 15 itself or its
shipping. The total price for all 14 books is $559.86. Shipping for the
U.S. is $39; International is $83.

We will then
randomly select entrants and those selected will have the opportunity to
purchase a set. We will email the winners a secret link and they will then
have 48 hours to make their purchase.
DIDN'T YOU SAY THIS SERIES WAS NEVER GOING TO BE REPUBLISHED?
Yes, we did. These are sets from the original run. We have not reprinted
anything...and there are so few it doesn't qualify as a re-issue either.
CAN I BUY ONLY THE ONE OR TWO VOLUMES I AM MISSING?
Yes. In February 2011. For now, we are just selling the full sets. The leftover
volumes that do not make up a complete set will be made available February.
